Resistance Band Leg Curl

The resistance band leg curl is an isolation movement that targets the hamstrings without requiring a dedicated gym machine. It is suitable for all fitness levels and typically serves as a finisher in a lower-body workout or an activation drill before heavy hinges.

How to do it

  1. Anchor one end of the band to a low sturdy point and loop the other end around your right ankle.
  2. Lie face down on the floor or a mat with your legs extended toward the anchor and the band lightly taut, resting your head on your forearms.
  3. Brace your core and press your hips into the floor.
  4. Inhale, then as you exhale, bend your right knee and curl your heel toward your glutes against the band's resistance.
  5. Squeeze your hamstring at the top for a moment.
  6. Inhale and slowly extend your leg back down; complete all reps, then switch legs.

Questions

Which muscles are worked during the resistance band leg curl?

The exercise primarily isolates the hamstrings (biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and semimembranosus) with minor assistance from the calves.

Is this movement safe if you have lower back sensitivity?

Lying prone avoids axial spine loading, but if any sharp pain or pinch occurs in your lower back, stop immediately and consult a healthcare professional.
