Questions

Why perform seated calf raises instead of standing calf raises?

Bending the knees slacks the gastrocnemius muscle, forcing the underlying soleus to do the vast majority of the work.

Can this exercise be done at home without a dedicated calf block?

Yes, any stable, elevated surface such as a wooden block, weight plate, or sturdy step can serve as the foot platform.
