How to do it

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides, palms facing your body.
  2. Keep your back straight and your core engaged.
  3. Inhale and slightly bend your elbows. Exhale as you lift the dumbbells out to the sides, up to shoulder height.
  4. Keep your movements controlled, focusing on using your shoulder muscles.
  5. Your elbows and hands should rise at the same time in a fluid motion.
  6. Avoid swinging the weights or using momentum to lift them.
  7. Slowly lower the dumbbells back to the starting position.

Tips

Sets and reps

Aim for 3 to 4 sets of 12 to 15 reps with 60 to 90 seconds of rest between sets to optimize muscle growth. Heavy, low-rep training is not recommended for this exercise due to excessive leverage on the shoulder joint.
