Lever Shrug (Bench Press Machine)

The lever shrug on a bench press machine is an isolation exercise designed to target the trapezius and scapular stabilizers with full back support. It is suitable for lifters looking to develop the upper back without spinal loading, fitting naturally toward the end of a pull or shoulder session.

Questions

How does this compare to standard standing shrugs?

Performing the movement in a supported machine removes axial compression from the spine and prevents body sway, allowing pure scapular isolation.

What should you do if you feel joint pain during the movement?

Stop the exercise immediately if sharp shoulder pain occurs and consult a qualified medical specialist.
