Lever Biceps Curl
The lever biceps curl is an isolation machine exercise designed to target the biceps brachii and brachialis with guided mechanics. It suits lifters of all experience levels and is best placed toward the middle or end of an upper-body session after compound pulls.

How to do it
- Sit or stand at a biceps curl machine equipped with individual lever arms.
- Grasp each handle with an underhand grip.
- Start with your arms fully extended and palms facing up.
- Inhale and brace your core. Exhale as you curl one arm towards your shoulder, flexing the bicep.
- Keep your elbow stationary and focus on isolating the bicep muscle.
- Slowly lower the handle back to the starting position.
- Alternate arms with each repetition, ensuring a controlled and steady movement for each arm.
Common mistakes
- Lifting the elbows off the pad shifts mechanical tension away from the biceps and onto the anterior deltoids.
- Using torso momentum to initiate the lift robs the target muscles of effective loading.
- Stopping the descent early reduces the range of motion and limits muscle activation in the stretched position.
Tips
- Adjust the seat height so your elbow joints align precisely with the machine's pivot point.
- Pause for a full second at the top of each rep to maximize peak biceps contraction.
- Control the eccentric phase by lowering the handles smoothly over two to three seconds.
Sets and reps
For hypertrophy, perform 3 to 4 sets of 10 to 15 reps with 60 to 90 seconds of rest between sets. If training for muscular endurance, use 15 to 20 reps with rest periods of 45 to 60 seconds.

Your coach guides every set
Turn on the coach in Gloox: it asks how you feel, picks the weight from your history and cues technique and rest. Rate each set and the next one is tuned to you.

Questions
Can the lever curl replace free-weight biceps curls?
Yes, it serves as an excellent alternative by providing continuous resistance throughout the movement while enforcing strict form.
What should you do if you feel elbow discomfort during the curl?
Stop the exercise immediately to verify your seat alignment, and consult a qualified healthcare professional if the pain persists.
