Band Low Chest Press
The band low chest press is an accessory pressing exercise with an upward vector designed to target the upper chest and anterior shoulders. It works well in home setups or as a finishing movement in a chest or push-focused workout.

How to do it
- Anchor the band at a low point near the floor behind you and take a handle in each hand.
- Stand facing away from the anchor in a staggered stance, one foot forward, holding the handles at the sides of your lower chest with your elbows bent.
- Step forward until the band is taut, keep your back straight and core braced, then inhale.
- As you exhale, press the handles forward and slightly upward until your arms are extended at about shoulder height.
- Squeeze your chest at the end of the press for a moment.
- Inhale and slowly bring the handles back to the starting position.
Common mistakes
- Overarching the lower back shifts the load away from the chest and places unnecessary stress on the lumbar spine.
- Allowing the band to snap the arms back uncontrolled removes tension from the eccentric phase and impairs stability.
- Pressing too high above shoulder height shifts the focus from the upper pecs to the anterior deltoids and traps.
- Standing with feet parallel reduces base stability and makes it harder to resist the backward pull of the band.
Tips
- Pause for a brief second at full extension to maximize the peak contraction in the upper chest.
- Use a staggered stance and lean slightly forward from the ankles to maintain solid balance against the resistance.
- Keep the wrists neutral and aligned with the forearms throughout the entire press.
Sets and reps
Perform 3 to 4 sets of 12 to 15 controlled repetitions with 60 to 90 seconds of rest between sets to target muscular hypertrophy and endurance.

Questions
What part of the chest does this exercise target?
The low-to-high pressing angle primarily challenges the clavicular (upper) head of the pectoralis major along with the front deltoids.
Can this exercise replace gym cable crossovers?
Yes, it replicates the upward pressing path of a low-pulley cable press and provides continuous resistance throughout the range of motion.
